Whoop whoop

It's official Ryleighs pertussis swab came back positive. We have a case of whooping cough on our hands. Thanks to knowing right away that she had been exposed. We started antibiotics right away, the swab came back today when she has almost finished her antibiotics. I never would have brought her in with how the cough started. It literally was a dry cough on and off for a couple days. On Tuesday the cough became quite persistent but it still wasn't a worrisome cough. Or I should say wouldn't have been if I didn't know she had been exposed to pertussis. By the time we came home from NH she was tired and coughing a lot. I made her an appt and after we put a mask on her to pick up her antibiotics and a few things we needed at Walmart. Daddy was home prepping for a colonoscopy so he couldn't help out. In Walmart she had a few coughing fits and felt some shortness of breath. She started her antibiotic when we got home and improved quickly. She still has a cough and as of tomorrow she is no longer contagious. We have all been treated too as a precaution. Devan was happy to skip the nasal swab and go straight to antibiotics. Here's to hoping she doesn't develop the scary whoop cough that they can get 7-9 days after being diagnosed even when they are not contagious anymore.  My kids had all of their pertussis immunizations on schedule too. These crazy outbreaks are peculiar. Here's to a healthy rest if the summer.
